Pad Thai Anyone?
I picked up a very part-time job as a waitress at an authentic Thai restaurant. The owners are from Nong Khai, Thailand; and all the kitchen workers are from various provinces in Thailand. While I love the opportunity to speak thai with my peeps and the delicious, real thai food they make for me that is not on the menu...I have a few beefs with waitressing.
1. I do not like being ignored. The customers just expect me to do the deed and leave. Hello! As much as I hate it, I am little ms. cute! Everyone loves me and wants to talk to me all the time. I can't deal with this rejection. They look annoyed everytime I go to take an order or clear their table. Don't you want to talk to me?
2. I think that the restaurant industry is the most explicit place to see the distinction between social classes. They talk about their multi-million dollar business deals while sipping v. expensive wine, let their one trophy child order anything and everything on the menu (including drinks...if you're a Payne, you understand the significance), and come in with 9 Holt Renfrew shopping bags. It bugs me. What bugs me the most is that in some circumstances I am in that group and now I am serving them and they see me as an outsider... I am bugged that I have most likely treated other people as I am being treated as a waitress. I must be a better person.
3. They let me drink all the diet coke I want, which keeps me up at night when I am trying to fall asleep.
Conclusion:
I no longer have to be cute.
I must destroy all social classes above me. ha ha.
Must drink only water at work.

I had to google "Holt Renfew" to know what it was... it is apparently "Canada's leading fashion design store" where they sell all the brand names you see in Vogue magazine but can never seem to find at Ross Dress for Less.
