Today's News

I cannot believe it myself, but it is true. I had a conversation with Dan that went like this:

P: I can't believe this all happened so fast, what a blessing from Heavenly Father

D: Yeah, we really need to start paying Him back

P: Um, Dan, I pay 10% already

I know, I know, I am so funny.

We had this conversation because my passport with its adhered visa foil is here! Meaning, I can cross that border whenever my little heart wants to! You would think after all the posts about being a lonely girl I would be going tomorrow, but, I am not. There are lots of loose ends to tie up here and Dan is coming up for a family visit during American Thanksgiving. I do believe I received my passport from the consulate in record speed. Thank you consulate for being so good to me. It's probably because I am so cute.

Today I went to a Remembrance Day memorial service here in Calgary, the one that the Mayor spoke at! It was really cool. I don't know what it was, but remembering our veterans and learning that the Canada's last WW1 veteran passed away this year at the ripe age of 109 (!) and singing O Canada and God Save The Queen; well, all that got me s-a-d about leaving my maple leaf.

And now I shall share with you Canada's favorite WW1 poem.

In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Canadian Army

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
