We shall start with the bookshelf. It is being littered with all sorts of festive things - like cards, mini stockings (times are tough), gingerbread, et cetera. Our bookshelf was somewhat of a Christmas miracle in itself if we're talking about miracles here. Because things are so up in the air for us right now, I refuse to buy brand new furniture that we probably won't be able to take with us anyways when/if we go and we all know how freaking annoying it is to sell on Craigslist, so anyways. This beauty of a bookshelf found me one day at the Goodwills on the one day furniture was 50% off. Woot woot!
And now we shall move to the wall that houses our most wonderful couch. We jazzed this ol'girl up with some 'sneezings greetings' kleenex from Target and a sweet little Christmas banner. Perhaps my favorite touches. Also, we shall take a peek at the coffee table and my homemade snowy Christmas trees.
Last but not least, I'll show you our short little tree and the roaring fireplace- I know, such luxury in a one bedroom!
And in the name of Christmas traditions we are keeping it real by carrying on a Matthews family tradition of watching Bruce Willis kick some serious arse in Die Hard. Dan and his brothers wanted to watch it so badly when it was released...in 1988! But because it is rated 'R', Dan's parents wouldn't allow the boys to watch it unless it was edited. Because edited movies only happen on TV, Dan and his brothers would call the program directors of Calgary's local TV stations at least once a month requesting that they play 'Die Hard'. THEY DID THIS FOR 4 YEARS. And how the heck do little boys even find that phone number (Dan informs me that they found it in the phone book, of course!)? Is that not the sweetest thing ever? Dan started calling when he was 8 and they finally played it 4 years later on November 4th, 1995 @ 12am. Best day of their lives. They taped the edited version and then watched it the next Monday night for FHE (and then watched it and watched it and watched it). Now, every holiday season they relive the excitement and joy that only Bruce Willis knows how to spread.
And that's how we roll out here in the east. Some decorations, a tree, and some Die Hard. If you ask me, I'd say our days are pretty merry and bright even if it is just us three (well, kind of 3 but not really).
7 woot-woots!:
