ARMD

Just about everyone I know is scared of getting old. There is lots to be scared of- this fear is competley understandable. I mean, you loose you hair, sight, hearing, you grow hair in places you don't want it, your hips will need replacing, everyone you know starts dying... the list goes on and on. I think this is why my father chooses to believe he is 21- I get it.

As you all know, I work with old people. I like it too- I especially liked it today. I got to screen this older lady who brought her "friend for years" with her. I suspect her husband is dead and all her kids are just too busy. So it was these vibrant 82 year olds that came in and kept me laughing throughout the whole appointment.

I mean, when you have macular degeneration (especially the wet kind) what more can you do than laugh?...because nothing is gonna fix it honey. So when she tells me that she has to squint a lot to see and her friend pipes in "it's getting pretty dangerous around the lodge because all the men think she's after them". . . what more can one do but have a good laugh- because it was a really funny joke. The patient immediatley got all embarassed-it was like her friend had just told the ultimate dirty joke. I guess for an 82 year old that is pretty racy. It was so sweet and funny. So as long as I have good friends and crazy sisters, I think getting old really won't be that bad. Macular degeneration and all.
