A Calgary Christmas

Christmas is all around. And it is weird. It's weird on a few levels, but the one of most height is that of geography. Last year I was in a Buddhist country. Christmas was different there. It was an experience that will sit in my heart forever. It was such a special experience and so priceless- my adjectives don't do justice here. I've been missing the Land of Smiles a lot lately. Last night I dreamed I was headed back there with Leslie, but then I woke up to a bleek morning in Canada. I mean, I love Canada, it's just not Thailand. This time last year I was rushing around the streets of Asoke and Sukhumwit in the mist of skyscrapers and beggars... now it's Shaganappi and Crowchild. In attempts of bringing back that same feeling I had last year I find myself keeping busy with Christmas activites. For instance, last night my choir preformed at a choir festival at the Knox United Church of Canada. CBC even recorded the whole thing and will air the preformance all throughout the month of Decmeber. It was great, I felt like I was in a thrid grade Christmas concert... just a little more professional. We got all dressed up, went downtown where all the lights are twinkling and sang our hearts out. At the present moment I find myself waiting for my candy cane brownies to bake. I made a low fat brownie mix, smashed up about 8 peppermint candy canes and added them to the batter, then I put cute Christmas sprinkles on top. My house smells delish. It's weird to have time to do this kind of stuff this Christmas season. It's nice though, just different. But how many songs do I have to sing and how many batches of brownies do I have to make to get that same Christmas feeling I had just 12 months ago? Who knows. I'm gonna die trying though! Next task: get a tree.
