Mother Comes to Town

Well, miracles of miracles- the Great White North Soviet Union is starting to spring! Of course, only patches of the brown grass are turning kind of green, the streets are covered in leftover salt and gravel, and we have only had a few days of +10 weather. It could very well snow again as snow is the form our “April Showers” like to take, but folks, it’s comin’!!

We recently had a spring visit from the mother. It was very nice. Mom came and she conquered. We lost track of her Monday, but she was found on my doorstep Tuesday evening when I got home from work. Phew. Sometimes she disappears like that. Some highlights of her visit include but are not limited to:

-Dinner at the Vietnam Palace for her traditional noodle birthday dinner. We always feel like royalty when we go there. Mom loves noodles and so do we. Last time we went she saw the spicy satay soups that we had and this time she actually got one. It was very good and we had spring rolls too (to celebrate the season).

-Mother’s life is a story of unfortunate events that tend to err on the comical side (because she always ends up surviving we can laugh). This visit she told us a new little gem that I keep trying to circulate through the sisters but can’t always get a hold of everyone. I shall share the story here. Mother loves thrift stores, loves them. I would even say she loves them as much as her children and maybe even Coronation Street. A few years ago she found a great buy- an electrical blanket to keep her warm while sleeping way way up north. Up until a few months ago she was using this faithful blanket every winter night. Well, a few months ago she had a dream. She was enjoying a campfire, getting all nice and warm, but then her eyes were bothering her from the smoke. This woke mother up. Much to her surprise the campfire was actually the blanket and the smoke was rising from the embers on her trusty little friend. Well, once she got her wits about her she jumped right up, took that smouldering blanket to the door and threw it on a pile of snow. You would have to know my mother to know why this is so funny.. . it’s just all these unfortunate events are always occurring.... oh me oh my... hee hee hee. Let it be know that I do see the possible tragedy and am glad she is okay.

-Mother got to have a nice visit with her sister. I love sisters.

So spring is coming, so are the visitors and so shall we go visit.
