Last week Dan and I took an extremely last minute trip to Utah to visit Eve and her adorable family. So last minute in fact that we bought the tickets Tuesday and flew out that Saturday. Anxious mother in the airport yo! That first leg was high anxiety for me, but things actually went pretty smoothly and some how I was able to mellow out a little bit (after crying on my sisters shoulder, of course) and now I am feeling a little better about my mothering abilities. It was really nice to get out of town for a few days and just chill while enjoying three (!) meals a day. A treat it was indeed! And also a little baptism by fire, if you will, for me and Jude. Dan was all 'you and Jude will do just great!', and in my head I was all 'excuse me? how do you know? I'm the one who has to deal with the howling baby! ah! I'm the one whose hormones are going crazy! Don't tell me that! Nothing will ever be fine! Ever!'. In the end though, he was right. All this drama, Patience, phuu-lhease!
Anyways. The emotions of a new mother. I gotta protect my young though. I feel like a wild animal sometimes and I will eat you if I have to.
We returned home to Dan's mom and dad coming into to town for Dan's graduation and Jude's blessing. We had such a nice time with them and packed a whole lot in during their 3 day visit. And if you didn't see my FB status, Dan was the only one in his class graduating with highest honors which means a 4.0! The smartest boy in grad school! He did however have his cap on backwards during the ceremony to which I pondered on his 4.0 and wondered if maybe it should have really been a 3.99 ;)?
After all that travel, family, food, and fun, I couldn't help but think about how rich we are. Don't get me wrong, I would love to be rich with the doll-ah doll-ah bills as well, but I will take the richness that comes through the relationships that surround me any day. My family, my friends- I love them all so much even though countries divide us and states separate, the love is strong for those near and far. This oxytocin pumping through me just makes me love everybody everywhere all the time! I highly recommend it. Best drug ever.
